I was going to write about something else completely but this came across my timeline on Facebook and it kinda pissed me off.
Why can’t she just be Dolly? Why label her with anything, if you didn’t know her?
Dolly is a woman of a certain generation who knew how to be women. They didn’t wither away under a blanket crying about the world being unfair, or scream about smashing the patriarchy at every corner.

Women like Dolly are poised and not to be trifled with. My mother and grandmothers were like Dolly. Nice enough mama bears that would kill you three times before you hit the floor with fresh manicured nails, always French, and wearing heels and a silk suit. Tough women whose love was a little less tender. They were hardened by their own experiences of living in two worlds constantly: the one they were in and the one they left behind in Cuba.
Tough women don’t need labels. Dolly doesn’t need a label…especially not feminist. Dolly loved everyone. Genuinely. She oozed good old fashioned values like humility, tenacity, resilience. She wanted everyone to use their God given talents to always be the very best person always because this is all we get.
What would Dolly do? She’d tell you to quit your cryin, the past is in the past, and you gotta buckle up, and go get things done cuz you ain’t got much time left!
Be like Dolly.
