As a long time admirer of the great Nikola Tesla, I have always admired those who want his legacy to be known. My all time favorite is Matthew Inman, illustrator of the comic The Oatmeal. When he started to raise money to save Tesla’s lab, you’re damn right I donated to the campaign to help save it(and I still have my sticker and other goodies). The museum was built.
Then we have Elon. Oh Elon. Eccentric, Aspie, and still so…normal. He’s just a little rich. I can’t be mad about that. If I was smarter, I’d be rich, too. Or maybe I’m just not motivated or impressed by money. Big deal. You’re going to die with or without it.
But it’s what he IS doing with it. I believe he is doing mostly good things. He’s also doing WILD and INVENTIVE things, very much in the spirit of Nikola.
It’s just not the things everyone ELSE wants him to do. No one got mad when Ted Turner bought CNN. Some people got mad Bezos bought the Washington Post but it’s not an issue with the people currently frothing at the gums about Musk.
Should money be spent better elsewhere? Of course. What I propose is…instead of being mad at private citizens for doing what they do with their own money, we start holding our politicians a little more accountable for how they WASTE the money we ALL already give them to take care of the fucking problem in the first place.
