High Hopes

My 8 yr old asked me if I knew who Panic! at the Disco were.

Oh honey…

She wanted me to play their new song, “House of Memories” on the ride to school. I love PATD so of course I obliged. Excellent song, that I thought was a little too heavy for an 8 yr old to connect with.

Then I thought about what I was listening to at 8: “Afternoon Delight”, “Another One Bites the Dust”, and “De Doo Doo Doo” by the Police. I had them all on 45s. My mother either didn’t know or didn’t care and I can’t decide if that’s good or bad.

What I love most is that she is definitely developing great musical taste. She knows who Tom Waits is and recognizes his voice instantly. She thinks his music is weird, but she likes it anyway(definitely our daughter). She listens to jazz, soft piano music and ambient music to sleep. She loves music from Bleu, Nirvana, Imagine Dragons, The Lumineers, and Beck. I AM ONE PROUD MOMMA.

I write tragedies, not sins

There was that one time I had received the credentials to photograph Panic with Foxy Shazam and fun. at a club in Hartford. Rookie mistake: I forgot my SD cards. Normally, I always had one in the car for this reason, but on this night, there was no SD card to be located anywhere. The club was in the middle of an industrial area so there were no stores nearby to go buy one.

In a sigh of defeat, I went to the bar and cried into the cocktail I ordered. Then, all of a sudden, Brendan popped out of the crowd with a guitar in front of the bar. The best I got were two sad photos with my really shitty-now-but-awesome-for-2011 phone from behind.
