railroad tracks in city

Casey Jones

Like the swing bridge in CT, I get excited when I can catch some form of engineering doing its thing in its entirety. The other day, I got caught at the crossing near the house and of course I had to start recording.

This particular train is pulling new cars. Some times, it’s pulling military vehicles. Other times, its pulling grain.

Considering that Indiana is considered the Crossroads of America, you’d think they would have had the forethought to upgrade the lines so that they could also transport people.

We have the most minimal passenger rail here and it fucking sucks. There is one Amtrak that goes to Chicago but it only goes twice a week at the asscrack of dawn, and you have to take a bus as part of the trip to the main station.. Nothing direct to Union Station. As much as I dislike Chicago, I would certainly much rather take the train there than drive – the drive is awful.

I miss the days of getting on the Metro-North and heading in to NYC, or catching other lines to Philly, Boston, or Concord. I miss all the little stops in between. I would love to spend a weekend back home riding up and down the coast photographing the stops along the way. Quaint as fuck is an understatement.

Anyway, Indiana sucks but trains are still the best. Check out some of my favorite railroad from the cockpit videos by clicking here for a ride to Bergen Norway, clicking here for a local train to Hiroshima, or clicking here for a highspeed 4K ride into the Swiss Alps.
