WordPress recently announced integration with Claude.ai, my FAVORITE ai platform, and no I’m not getting paid to promote them. Anyway, the connector does not work with self-hosted WordPress sites, which all of mine are. So I had to do it. I had to be the one to create a plugin specifically to connect Claude’s API to self hosted sites. As far as I know, I just did…and I am.
More than anything, after nearly 20 years of developing websites using the WordPress system, I’ve finally built my first WordPress plugin. That feels pretty good. The scariest part wasn’t putting it together, it was actually testing the thing to make sure it won’t blow up someone’s website.
The Testing Setup
Not going to lie: I raw-dogged it. I zipped it and uploaded it and activated it. TERRIBLE IDEA I KNOW but if you haven’t caught on yet, I have Leroy Jenkinsed my way through life. Why would I do things differently now?
What Actually Happened
IT WORKED! The plugin activated without throwing any error messages, which honestly felt like winning the lottery. But then came the real tests.
At every pass, I kept waiting for that dreaded moment your entire website gets taken out by one shitty plugin. Still waiting! The Compatibility Dance
I tested my plugin across different themes, different WordPress versions (thank goodness for version control), and even tried it with some popular plugins like WooCommerce and Yoast SEO. No issues!
WordPress has AI built in…so why my plugin? FearlessWP connects directly to your Claude account, who knows your voice, your writing style, and other details about you. So it’s like having your Claude portal
Lessons Learned
My advice: Do everything the opposite of me. Test early, test often, and test like you’re trying to break everything.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some more crowing to do.
