Jack White was the headliner the first night of the very first Firefly Music Festival in 2012. I showed up at the pit early like I was supposed to and was handed a playing card and told to come back 10 minutes before the band took the stage. When I came back, I flashed my card and I was let in. I heard later that Jack White was mad there were so many photographers in the pit and threw a fit, but I cannot confirm that. However, the next night, only the top photographers were let in for the Killers. I, unfortunately, was not one of them but those are the breaks sometimes with shows. You definitely can’t take it personally because there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes with tour managers and PR people. Top it off, not only did I get to photograph the very amazing Jack White, he was looking right at me. That is the moment that makes concert photography worth every pain in the ass that it is.
