Disclaimer: This is not a tutorial on how to use Photoshop.
Technically, while I do own the copyright to my photos, concerts and all, selling the concert ones is kind of complicated. I CAN sell them, I just can’t host them on third party vendor or print-on-demand websites as photographs. However, derivative and fan inspired art is wholly acceptable as long as they are marketed in this manner.
It takes a lot of break me out of my comfort zone. My editing style had to be minimalist because they were being used as the featured photos for reviews on websites. The most straight from the camera shot is preferred so that time isn’t wasted in post processing.
The first three photos I worked on are the ones above. The same process was used on all three; the use of the Oil Filter. I did the Dave Matthews photo first – I love the way it looks. I wanted a similar look with Simon and Snoop, but when I applied the filter and did all the tweaking, they didn’t look the same.
I played around with a bunch of different settings in Camera Raw, then tweaked a couple of layers and accomplished the other two photos. I’m trying to get that painting effect. Simon still LOOKS like a photo, but you can see the delicate brush strokes when you zoom in.
